 How many WordPress themes are there?

Would be bloggers need not make their own page layouts. However, there a numerous thousands, if not millions, of themes to pick from. Life is too short.

How many WordPress themes are there?

Wordpress themes tend to come in several simple classifications:

1. Header, Footer, one sidebar on either left or right side.

2. Option for text area to be in two columns

3. As above, with two sidebars, either as a unit or with one on either side.

4. As above, but with lots of graphics to confuse pages, soak up loading time, and make things miserable for seniors and color blind. (Not all examples are that bad.)

Some of the better web sites for fee or free wordpress themes even catalog according to types: one column text, two column text, single or dual sidebars, left or right sidebar, et cetera. Too bad not all theme sources are so considerate.

Other sites, pay as well as free, display theme offerings by arbitrary names, usually with small images, sometimes with links to demos. Listing by industry category really is not that helpful.

The site itself is a good example of two sidebars plus top menubar.

“Theme Search” has pull-downs for Colors, Columns, Width, Category, Misc.

Columns takes inputs of 1 to 4.

Width asks “fluid” or “fixed”.

Category refers to main subject matter, always a difficult way to sort themes.

Misc. includes such parameters as Flash, animation, rounded corners, left or right sidebar, top navigation, …

Anyone offering more than a dozen templates for sale should be as considerate. Or stop calling themselves “professional”.
